So you want to sell Products on the internet? You might want to read this! Hello, I have been a web designer and developer for 8 years. My hosting company has setup designed hosted and optimized over 75 ecommerce websites . I wanted to write this article for entrepreneurs perusing that dream in the hope that it will introduce you to the realities of selling products online . I hate to give you the bad news first, but selling products is in my opinion one of the hardest internet businesses to get into. We have seen so many sites that we setup fail over and over again due to these basic facts: 1. If you are reselling or trying to market products in demand generally you will have some serious competition hurdles to deal with. I know all this sounds like common sense, but you would not believe how many people don't take it into consideration before jumping into it. Even though I have never gone into the business of selling physical products online I have followed many companies and individuals that have just thrown their money away or made it work by taking a different approach. At my firm I am in charge of most of the marketing projects that come through, generally most of the sites I worked on related to products such as I phone Accessories, Power Tools, T-shirts, custom jewelry ext have not done well. I have madea great deal of local service companies allot of money with my skills, but have failed horribly with product based ecommerce websites. Generally most people think the web is stupid and think just putting up a site will start brining in unimaginable money. WRONG - The web as we know it is already very complex and everything from the way your website design is constructed to how it is hosted by your hosting company will have an effect. People wonder why we charge $5000 + even for a brochure website to our clients it is just a bunch of pictures and text formatting but they are wrong. It has been a extremely hard task for my company to explain the value of what we do for our customers behind the purple curtain. In regards to SEO you would not believe how much the construction and optimization or (ON PAGE) SEO has to do with the future success of your site. In fact the fine tuning of this construction can decide if you are going to start showing up on page one for your primary phrases or page 100. But keep in mind that when it comes to selling products you need to build a buzz, get out there invest time in social internet marketing. If it is a new product expose it to visitors using eBay, twitter, my space, face book or Craig’s list - Start a Buzz -. Otherwise unless you are lucky you will be dead in the water.
