OPO (ON PAGE OPTIMIZATION ) is the first step in optimizing your Joomla website . OPO is a requirement when it comes down to ranking well for search phrases. First things first do some homework. Check out websites that have similar services or products and review their rankings and placement. You can also check out SEOBOOK.com to get a general idea on the popularity of terms related to your industry. SEOBOOK.com is not accurate but can point you in the Wright direction. National or International phrases will be harder to tackle, especially the ones that are very popular. Try to find phrases that are realistic at first then build on them later when you have the PR. 

JOOMLA 404SEF is setup in order to give you control over page titles, META and directory structure. Google as well as other search engines return to your site more frequently when your content changes. This is why it is important to make slight changes to content, titles and meta. Search engines love websites that are not static, Joomla SEF allows you to rotate meta information to achieve this effect. Fresh content is always important to add to your site as it grows and develops a stronger PR. Off page optimization is the hard part, if your domain name is new and has little or no inbound links rest assured it will take longer  to optimize and get results. Finally just having the control over your search engine friendly URLs is a must if you want to get results using Joomla.
